Blind Date

At times, I seem to have made online dating a career and one of my earlier negative online dating experiences involved plans to meet at El Cholo restaurant on Western in Los Angeles. Driving from Newport Beach (about an hour south) was a commitment but I felt it was proper as a gentleman. I was fortunate to endure light traffic that day and got to the restaurant at about 40 minutes early. The hostess informed me that the wait would be about an hour so I added myself to the list and set to waiting for my date.

More than an hour went by and then I heard my name called for the available table. I told the hostess that my date had not yet arrived. She kindly stated we would be seated once my date arrived. I waited a bit longer only to hear a voice next to me say, “Hi. I’ve been here the whole hour watching you. I could tell that you didn’t recognize me. I’ve been waiting here deciding what I should do.”

She was morbidly huge, 15 years older than her photos and I found out that she had two kids. All of those things were major deal breakers from the beginning. To say she was dishonest with her published photos, age and weight would be an understatement. I told her to never do this to anyone else again. I’m not sure if I was angrier because I was lied to, drove the long distance for nothing or departed El Cholo without enjoying a good meal. Maybe it was all those reasons together.

OMG that’s insane! That woman should never be allowed to ‘poke’, ‘wink’ or any of the other online flirting tactics. she should be locked in a closet!

i bet she pulls that “you didn’t recognize me” number a lot to make people feel guilty. good god that’d be terrible. how did you actually say it to her?

The real shame here is you did not eat at El Cholo. That restaurant serves food of the gods. I moved from LA to Australia and if I could eat at one restaurant from home today, it would be El Cholo. It would have made the drive worth it. As far as the “date” goes, that’s really heinous. It’s one thing to go out on a date with someone and expect that they’ll recognize you the next time they see you. It’s absolutely insane and moronic to give someone photos 15 years old since which you’ve gained a ton of weight and then having an issue with them not recognizing you. Somethings I don’t miss about LA. Of course, not everybody’s like that but there are a lot of people in LA who pull that level of truly retarded behavior and then go, “What’d I do wrong?”

[...] age, occupation, financial status, etc. so why do people continuously do it? Your date will be disappointed and turned [...]

I think I’d be even more annoyed at the fact that she’d been hanging around for an hour “watching” you. The least she coulda done was step up to you earlier so you weren’t there wasting your time any longer.

Yeah, the “I’ve been watching you for the last hour” part is super creepy. Even if she hadn’t been way older than you thought and had two kids she’d failed to mention, that’s one big creepy red flag.

You should have stayed and had dinner, though! “Excuse me, we’re actually going to need two tables, far away from each other, each for one person. Thanks.”

If I have to go that far, I always make the “date” part of something else. Once I invited a friend to go with me and we all had lunch together. The woman, as is often the case, used a very old photo. But we all had a nice lunch and after I spent the day at the beach with my guy friend and had a nice day over all. I never contacted her again.

That’s a darn shame. If she is a big woman, she should spare herself all the humiliation and use a website for big women. There are LOTS of men out there who actually *like* and *want* chunkies, chubbies, BBWs and even “SSBBWs”.
