I also agree with Scribbles. If you all want to bash her then ask yourself this: if this were your daughter what would you want her to do in this situation? Personally, I'd want mine to run like hell.

amen, Scribbles.

I love reading the entries, hate seeing the women get bashed ALL THE TIME, no matter WHAT they do.

The OP was very right (and wise for her years) to follow her intuition and take herself out of a situation where she felt uncomfortable.

I'm coming in a little late on this, but I find it ironic that people lambaste women all the time on this site for putting up with situations that make them uncomfortable or unhappy just to be 'nice,' but when this girl was clearly put-off by the parents acting in a manner that made her uncomfortable (the leering and the baby-factory comments), you all criticize her for judging too harshly and bailing.

There is NO winning, I swear.

If the way they acted was a dealbreaker to her, then so be it. When you're with a guy, you're with his family too (unless he's estranged or they're deceased).

You can pick your nose but you can't pick your family, is that how that phrase goes?

I agree that OP shouldn't have judged him so harshly based on his family, he seemed like a pretty stand up fella from the little she has written about him.

That said, OP was 17. High schoolers tend to be skittish and make poor decisions, no?

His family was completely normal... to him.

One of the most startling things about reaching adulthood---- and getting exposure to life outside of one's childhood universe---- is the terrible realization that you may have had an abnormal (and possibly substandard) upbringing. Up until the rude awakening, all seems normal.

As bad as it all sounds, it was a little harsh to judge him based on his family. My dad's family is generally terrfying (drug dealers, missing teeth, many of them have been in prison), but my dad turned out totally normal. My mom freaked out upon meeting his family, but decided to give him another chance, and it turned out well for them. Haha not to say I wouldn't proceed with caution after meeting this guys parents, or grill him to see if he wanted to turn me into a baby factory like his mom....
