Weekly Roundup

On MVWD, we have many, many voices in our stories and comments but we – that’s Jessica and Victoria for those of you who’ve not read About us – have stayed behind the scenes. We’ve been happy to collect your stories, wave our editing wand when necessary, moderate comments* and laugh out loud with each post and day that passes.

However, as the site grows (we are grateful your loyalty and for those who spread the word) and the conversation on the comment boards becomes more heated and hilarious (we love it that way), we thought we’d jump in with a weekly check-in post. We’ll tell you our thoughts on the week’s posts, accompanying erudite comments, any cautionary take-aways we’ve personally had and other news. So here goes…

This week we had a psychotic JDater, a supposed young Donald Sutherland, a guy many of you called B.S. on, a super awkward grad student and Mr. Onion Breath.

Victoria:

My favorite post of the week: JDate Jerk and I think you guys agree based on the votes. What a freaking nut job! I don’t think it means that we have to give up on the entire concept of online dating, but it is scary that a man of this age could make it through life this way. There really was no excuse for his behavior and luckily the OP was in a crowded restaurant. It’s a good reminder to never meet a first date alone — always meet in a public place!

My favorite comment of the week: I have to give it up to @rawr for calling out the psychotic vegetarian.

Jessica:

My favorite post of the week: First off, this is probably the wrong measure, but I really liked the retro GQ cover of Donald Sutherland that V found for the M.D./J.D. guy story. What a combo of credentials! How impressed would everyone (read: your mama) be if you brought home a doctor and a lawyer! But of course, he turned out to be nutso and looked like Kramer. Also, boners at inappropriate times are not great for those meet the fam moments.

My favorite comment of the week: Is not from this week at all but came in the last seven days so I think it should count. I almost fell off the chair when I read Patrick’s comment regarding an older story about aspirational dogs and a MVWD. Sounds like Patrick’s pooch and the girl from the date should get in touch.

*Any comments that are offensive to the point of being viciously personal, racist, homophobic, exceedingly profane, violent or too graphic in nature won’t be posted.

I, too, love rawr’s comment!

Also, I love how you guys are into the internet drams (as long as it doesnt get too out of hand). What else are internet comment boards for? :D

Go MVW franchise! You provide me with many laughs/methods of procrastination (in the best way possible) :D

Censorship is lame. Journalists should know better.

@Ctina – we are only moderating comments that are racist, sexist, highly offensive, etc. I’m sure you’ve noticed that news sites run by journalists moderate comments as well.
