Remember, this was 1989. Imagine what the reporters wore in the 80s. She said it was a small town where everyone knew everyone so I bet the guy was just “flashing” his friends. Halloween is pretty much like the only time you get to dress crazy and get away with it. It just shows the guy has a sense of humor.

Maybe going to a costume party for a first date wasn’t a great idea like Jenny said. Also, they chose costumes at opposite ends of the spectrum, that kind of speaks for itself that they are different people.

Personally I wouldn’t have been offended, but if it was my first time meeting the guy I’d take it as a bad sign.
A lot of (actually most)women have had a bad experience with a sexual harrasser at some point. Dressing as a flasher MIGHT just mean he has an offbeat sense of humor, but it also might mean he’s an ass who thinks sexual harrassment is hilarious. You wouldn’t know for sure until you got to know him, but I can understand some girls not sticking around to find out.

You should have interviewed him! I think this guy is hillarious. It is your friend that made the mistake by setting you up on a blind date to attend a costume party.
It’s a party. He shouldn’t have to babysit someone that clearly has no interest in him.

Definitely not the way to make a first impression. I wouldn’t have been terribly impressed either. I also do not appreciate it when dates leave me in the dust when they encounter their friends while on a date. Either incorporate me into your group or I’m leaving – I don’t want to wait around awkwardly while you all talk comfortably ignoring me.

Again, tons of people are attacking the OP. Why don’t you guys take your own advice and lighten up and have fun? She’s allowed to like or dislike people based on their choices and behavior – that’s life. Obviously she’s a little more conservative (hence, dressed as a reporter), and the guy isn”t (hence, dressed as a flasher), so it’s not surprisingly that she wasn’t into him – and frankly, it’s better that she was honest with him (“we’re not going to hang out much”) than pretend to like him.

I hope you find someone more suitable, OP!

I think his costume was appropriate, had he been naked under the coat, not so much, I think you over-reacted by alot. Lighten up and have fun, life’s too short (maybe he was too?)

Seriously tho, someone dressing up as something akin to sexual assault is pretty off putting. My best gal pal called me up 2 years ago, begging me to get to the track earlier because a man was sitting in his car, jacking off while staring at her. She’s still pretty upset by it. Dressing up as a criminal isn’t a smart idea when meeting someone new. He definitely could have made it funnier, but the OP doesn’t need to lighten up about a very disgusting crime.

Definitely a bad date.

Well, he’s a flasher AND not spending time with her at the party.. more into flashing people (I hope he knew people at the party!) than being with his blind date. I’m sure he had fun, but it was not a good date.
