What Happened Here?

My Very Worst Date was not only incredibly terrifying but also left me pretty confused in the end (this happened a good 15 years ago so don’t fault me if I forget a mundane piece of information).

I was a cute and spritely 18 year old working her first job in a very busy bar, and when a charming older guy asked me out, I couldn’t resist the temptation to take him up on it. Later that evening he showed up to pick me up from my shift at the bar. At this point, I had no idea we were headed to another bar to start our date or that his two guy friends were coming along too. I was incredibly embarrassed, I was convinced that maybe I had misunderstood his intentions about the date entirely and tried to make plans to leave.

Just as we pulled up to the bar, his friends got out and left him and I alone in the car. He turned to me and asked if we could go back to my place and have a few beers I (regrettably ) agreed, and directed him to my house. Once we were both inside I excused myself to the bathroom so I could change and get cleaned up a tad, he took the liberty to pour me my drink (yes, believe me, I know). When I was finished I sat on the couch with him and it seemed pretty decent, good conversation – but after awhile I started to feel strange and sleepy and unexpectedly I passed out.

When I woke up some time later my chest felt incredibly damp, I got up and took a peek in the mirror. To my horror, my whole front was covered in blood! I took off my shirt to investigate but I was wound free, not a scratch on me. Suddenly remembering the date and also wondering what the hell happened, I saw that my door was wide open and the guy was nowhere to be found. Oh, and when I called him later that day? His phone was “out of service.” So strange….

This sounds like the beginning to a horror movie. OP, were you assaulted at all to your knowledge?

ShalamarSeptember 14th, 2012 at 5:46 am

Dafuq I just read … ?

zomboidSeptember 14th, 2012 at 6:05 am

what the fuuuudge

FlirtswithdisasterSeptember 14th, 2012 at 6:24 am

I know this happened 15yrs ago but, yes, you did leave out a few details.

Maggie MaySeptember 14th, 2012 at 6:56 am

What did the police say when you called them?

allySeptember 14th, 2012 at 7:17 am

you went for a rape kit, right?

AudaxSeptember 14th, 2012 at 7:41 am

Did you get tested?

JennSeptember 14th, 2012 at 7:44 am

You did call the police, right? Were you okay? This story just scared the sh*t out of me. People will definitely take advantage of the trusting or naive. I really hope you went to the hospital for a rape kit…. I’ve known a few girls who things like this have happened to (roofied and awoke later with no memory of previous night) who were too in shock (denial?) to go to the hospital…

audiSeptember 14th, 2012 at 7:52 am

So…So much wrong here!

LiLoSeptember 14th, 2012 at 8:05 am

Ditto Shalamar…you did something right OP? Besides just wash off blood and decide to post about it on an internet site years later?

NattieSeptember 14th, 2012 at 9:19 am

…I really hope you called the police; this definitely does sound like the start of a horror movie. All I can say is… I’m glad the blood wasn’t (apparently) yours.

JeffSeptember 14th, 2012 at 10:08 am

Did you check to see if you were missing a kidney?

Only thing I can think of here is that the guy started bleeding for some reason while in the process of assaulting the OP in her sleep, and took off to get medical attention. Either that or maybe she punched him in the nose while unconscious.

This definitely gets the nod for the weirdest VWD.

Drinky the Drunk GirlSeptember 14th, 2012 at 10:25 am

:(

JGirlSeptember 14th, 2012 at 10:33 am

Wait. What?

OP, you really did leave out some details, like what you did afterward and whether there was evidence of assault.

I wonder if the OP struggled and ended up headbutting him in the nose or something.

RoseSeptember 14th, 2012 at 11:58 am

Holy crap I’m so scared for you even though you said this happened so many years ago. I hope you got tested and called the police.

EllereSeptember 14th, 2012 at 12:46 pm

The missing essential details are so freaking essential that leaving them out makes this feel fake.

maoSeptember 14th, 2012 at 12:51 pm

I really hate to call stories fake, but I’m completely with Ellere on this one. Even if some details might have been forgotten, OP could at least tell us the aftermath of this. The way this story concluded made me feel like it was only written for shock value.

Mirin dem gams in the lead-in picture.
And chuckling at “spritely”. inb4 people claiming it is an archaic variant of sprightly; shyeah, like the barfly in this story even knows that.

Translation, please?

Dr. CheeseSeptember 14th, 2012 at 3:19 pm

The way I read this is that you were date raped and the blood was from your hymen. Its possible he had hurt himself but seems unlikely. I hope you went to the police and was checked for rape induced trauma. Its pretty obvious that you had drank rohypnol given his plan and the fact that he made you a drink without your observation. I was at a party once (college party with 100s of people, not any friends of mine) and I had picked up someone else’s beer on accident. It was more than likely laced with rohypnol, I thought I was going to die; at least who’s ever drink it was didn’t get raped.

BleahSeptember 14th, 2012 at 4:05 pm

Gross. He probably slipped something in your drink and your nose bled. Maybe a combo of something. I hope u called the police.

TraceySeptember 14th, 2012 at 4:51 pm

This is disturbing. Did you ever get yourself checked out? I sincerely hope you weren’t violated, but just from reading what you wrote something happened. I hope you’re okay.

BettySeptember 14th, 2012 at 4:54 pm

Dr. Cheese, she said the blood was all over her chest. That’s not where a hymen is located, so I’m guessing (and really, really hoping) that it wasn’t from being raped. I hope like hell that it was from her managing to give the guy a bloody nose; one of my friends was roofied a few years back, and became very aggresive before passing out, so maybe that’s what happened here. That being said, this woman needed to get to a hospital to get checked out, tested, and to report what happened to her.

JeffSeptember 14th, 2012 at 9:46 pm

“Dr. Cheese, she said the blood was all over her chest. That’s not where a hymen is located,”

Ha! Best comment ever?

Seriously, Dr. Cheese, don’t you think a girl would feel it if her hymen had been torn enough to bleed all over herself? The nosebleed idea is more plausible, but there is usually enough dried blood in or around the nostril that she would figure that out. So I still think the blood was his.

JanipurrSeptember 14th, 2012 at 10:57 pm

Too many important details left ou–I call fake.

EmilySeptember 15th, 2012 at 12:47 am

Holy shit on a spatula. What the hell happened?!

zomboidSeptember 15th, 2012 at 2:54 am

maybe he spilled sketti sauce on her and ran off in embarrassment

Dr. CheeseSeptember 15th, 2012 at 3:27 am

@ Betty, usually when someone gets date-raped drugged, rape occurs. Obviously the OP wouldn’t say where the blood came from especially when the story had no ending.

?September 15th, 2012 at 5:49 am

This story disturbs me, although like Betty says I am HOPING that OP became very aggressive and scared him away. This could have turned out much worse. I just pray that this guy got his comeuppance because it sounds like he was targetting younger girls and using a trail of new numbers to hide his tracks.

Whatever you did or didn’t do then, I’m just glad you’re OK now OP! I’m pretty sure you’d know what to do if you met a guy like this again!

NattieSeptember 15th, 2012 at 11:19 am

Actually, in my hometown, there are more (reported) instances of men being roofied and then robbed than there are women of being roofied and sexually assaulted.
Also, I can’t possibly see how it was her hymen since she would have had to be involved in some gymnastic-type sex in order to get blood all over her chest; also, the amount of blood she describes seems to be a bit extreme for a hymen bleed. (If tearing was that extreme, I’m presuming she would have felt it after waking up.)
My first thought when reading this story was that some type of Freddy/Jason type creature attacked the date and dragged him out, leaving OP safely passed out. I think the nosebleed (because she headbutted him?) makes a tad more sense, though.

CatSeptember 15th, 2012 at 1:25 pm

I watch alot of crime shows and this sounds like a plot line that ends with, “I never would have guessed she was a serial killer.”

KellySeptember 15th, 2012 at 4:52 pm

I really don’t unf stand why this was posted. It is not amusing or entertaining. It’s ally offensive and disturbing in a big way.

itsmeSeptember 15th, 2012 at 5:55 pm

hi, sorry everyone for the late reply this is the OP here.

as soon as I cleaned myself up I ran down to the local youth clinic which deals in trauma incidents such as this among other things. They ran the entire deal with me, I spoke to the nurse there and she set me up with every single test imaginable to determine if I had contracted an std/sti then she gave me 6 pills for gonorrhoea and chlamydia which is the most common sti in my area to be certain that if I had indeed been raped that I would be clean for when the results of the test came in. 6 months later I went for an HIV/AIDS test which apparently doesnt show up in your system until the 6 month mark. They checked for bruising in my vagina and other marks on my body, (i did have strange bruises on my thighs) but as far as they could tell there was no intense trauma to my lady parts. They did find trace amounts of some kind of drug in my system, but I can’t recall which one. You can imagine after finding this out how embarrassed I was that it had happened.

Later that evening after a friend prompted me to call the police I gave all the information I could to them, even though it was just his name and his number. They told me that “young girls like you get raped by gang members all the time, are you even sure that was his real name?” Yes…you read that correctly.

I can honestly say I have never done this ever again, I got incredibly lucky and I thank whatever was watching me that day that I got out of it with only a traumatic and bloody memory.

itsmeSeptember 15th, 2012 at 6:15 pm

I am still unsure about where all the blood came from, there was such a huge volume of it I can only guess where it came from (I didn’t have blood in my mouth or fingernails, not like a wound immediately starts to bleed as soon as it is inflicted though mind you) I do not have a record of attacking anybody in my sleep, so I don’t know if that is what happened. The spritely thing was a silly mistake, my apologies.

SpotSeptember 16th, 2012 at 3:06 am

I don’t think Dr Cheese is a real Doctor

JeffSeptember 16th, 2012 at 8:59 am

So they gave you pills for diseases you might not even have. I’m sure they didn’t bother to tell you about what the side effects might be either.

KaliSeptember 16th, 2012 at 2:02 pm

Oh honey, no, you don’t need to feel embarassed about being attacked like that (yes, I am calling being drugged an attack).

CatsSeptember 16th, 2012 at 4:31 pm

Jeff you don’t POSSIBLY think that just maybe having an STI might be worse than side effects of the pills protecting against them? If there are serious side effects then a doctor is obliged to discuss them with the patient. No matter the side effects I’d rather take a pill than have an STI and put any other sexual partners through the worry as well…

On a side note this story is so not awesome, but I guess it’s a good reminder to those of us with social lives *ahem* to be careful.

BettySeptember 16th, 2012 at 4:34 pm

itsme, I’m glad you got medical attention right away. And as Kali said, you have nothing at all to be embarassed about. I’m glad you’re ok!

Dr. CheeseSeptember 17th, 2012 at 2:17 am

@ Spot Im not medical doctor (there are other kinds genius!). In no way did I assume that a hymen was on someones chest, but that the blood could have been smeared. To me the most logical bodily induced trauma during a non-forceful rape would likely be to the vaginal region, hence the hymen theory. Given that the woman was 18, my theory is probably incorrect, although vastly more plausible than assuming that anyone at any point suffered a nose bleed, especially since there was no evidence that any sort of violence occurred.

However, OP, if there approach is to wait for 6 months to see if you have HIV whats the point? If you take antiviral medication within days of contacting HIV you can prevent the disease altogether. What would be the benefit of knowing 6 months later if you can’t prevent the disease? Also, modern medicine can detect HIV antibodies nearly immediately, so what kind of hospital did you go to?

BleahSeptember 17th, 2012 at 3:20 am

Weekly I’m glad you got to the police and clinic. So many r too embarrassed at being so stupid. Good job!

SnizSeptember 17th, 2012 at 6:06 am

Lecture!! You should have!! I would have!!

blondieSeptember 17th, 2012 at 7:49 am

Spot, you are hilarious.

Sally Word MercenarySeptember 17th, 2012 at 8:36 am

What an awful story. The epilogue about calling the police takes it from bad to horribly worse.

OhDeerSeptember 17th, 2012 at 10:26 am

That is horrific. I would have suggested giving the bloody t-shirt as evidence but who knows what I would do in that situation!

JeffSeptember 17th, 2012 at 2:29 pm

Cats – There are no pills that “protect you against” STDs. There are pills that treat the infections once you already have them. If you don’t have them and you take those pills, you are altering your body chemistry in ways that could have negative effects. This is why you don’t just go open someone’s medicine cabinet and start swallowing pills for fun.

There is no STD known to medical science that will kill you before you’ve had a chance to verify that you have it. Thus, there is absolutely no medical rationale for giving someone medicine for an STD until you know they have it.

Finally, why on earth would you be having sex with ANYONE shortly after possibly being raped such that you’d need to be on medication to protect them before having a chance to find out if you have an STD? Unless you’re a prostitute, I suppose. And I’m willing to give the OP the benefit of the doubt that she isn’t.

Frankly, your comments are disturbing in their implications.

MondaySeptember 17th, 2012 at 3:24 pm

WTF, Jeff? Who are you to say when it’s appropriate for a rape victim to resume her sex life. Shame on you.

TuesdaySeptember 18th, 2012 at 1:41 pm

Whoa Whoa Whoa. Jeff, you actually managed to pull me out of lurking which is shameful because I know you’re probably trolling, but I just have to point out

1) Clamydia and Gonorrhea are treated with ANTIBIOTICS. I strongly suspect that is all the gave her, in order to get a jumpstart on fighting either infection if she happened to contract it. Now, maybe you are personally against antibiotics and concerned about how they might alter your body chemistry, but for the vast majority of U.S. patients they’re pretty routine and harmless. People take them for ACNE. So calm down.

2) This is where I’m sure you are trolling, because I cannot believe you are legitimately arguing that the only women who have sex after being assaulted are prostitutes. Yes, some women want to avoid intimacy because they feel intimately violated, but this is by no means a universal response to suspected or even verified sexual assault. Sex is a completely different experience from sexual assault. Many people find sex a comforting and healthy part of their daily lives, and can find a positive interaction with a loving partner to be affirming. Others just don’t want to interrupt their normal routine.

Frankly, your comments are disturbing in their implications.

ErydezintSeptember 22nd, 2012 at 10:25 pm

@ Jeff: You’re an idiot dude. Trolling or not. Sorry, thems the breaks. I was raped. I saw a doctor on an emergency situation later that day. Had tests done, AND that VERY SAME doctor gave me 2 prescriptions to fight off typical STD’s that were common in my town that was treatable. It’s not uncommon whatsoever for that to happen. I guess you wouldn’t know that because you have never been raped, maybe? It’s not cool to assume……ever.

ErydezintSeptember 22nd, 2012 at 10:28 pm

ANd yes it’s common for HIV/AIDS tests to have to wait 6 months, especially if you get state medical, or it’s a public health clinic that does this for free or a small fee.
