It was an interesting week starting with an English heavy metal dude who loves streetwalkers and the one night stand gone wrong to the over eager friend of a friend, filthy Craigslist creep and college cafeteria Cassanova. So many issues were raised, from online safety and cheating to what constitutes a real date. Thanks to all who weighed in.

Victoria:

My favorite post of the week: I think the heavy metal club “date” was my favorite if only for its uniqueness. I’m starting to think perhaps the guy was turned on by the thought that she supposedly had penis breath (is this a legit phenomenon?) and was wishing it to be true. It wasn’t a traditional date, but on this blog we use “date” in a broad sense since dates in general have changed so much over the years. Are dates only when someone asks another person out beforehand?

My favorite comment of the week: UnsightlyJello’s wisdom made me laugh. It’s certainly a bad idea to go to a stranger’s house on a first date whether they’re from Craigslist or your local bar. However, the OP mentioned she was lonely and maybe was looking for a hookup. Dangerous? Yes, but if the guy’s a psycho killer you’re kinda screwed whether you go back to his on the first or third date.

Jessica:

My favorite post of the week: For sure, the substitute bread man who was supposed to be the easy rebound guy for the OP. Alas, he neglected to mention a crucial detail. His wife. I think this just goes to show there is no such thing as a free lunch(box) and it’s best to stay way from office (or convenience store) pool when you’re trying to get your groove back after a break-up.

My favorite comment of the week: Lisa for the ABCs of MVWD Dating comment!

This week we had the guy with somewhat strict height requirements, a very first Very Worst Date, a date that doubled and resulted in a pair of BFFs (but not a boyf), the Mami and Meat dude and a curious not-quite-MVWD tale of An Affair to Remember.

Victoria:

My favorite post of the week: For me, it’s the Mami and Meat. Mommy issues, lying about his age, “cannibalism” and a dick pic? Of course this date started with MySpace. I’m amazed by the way the 18 year-old OP handled herself with with the “tiny meat” comeback. Good for her!

My favorite comment of the week: To meree for her hilarious comment about the doctors and nurses bar party date.

Jessica:

My favorite post of the week: I am going for the forgetful lass in An Affair to Remember as my weekly fav. Yes, I know it’s not technically a MVWD story but I’d wager that the OP’s date probably though she was a bad date though he couldn’t have been all that himself since he barely made an impression on her. She forgets she dated him-and is forced to admit the slip-up to his face. Two separate times. With an interval of 12 years between both incidents.

My favorite comment of the week: I had the very same question as OBQuiet about the Mami guy and his picture missive of his meat via text. I understand this sexting biz is big with the youth these days but this guy was almost 40! Also, this post reminded me of this post, which features a similar but ultimately even more misguided camera phone self-potraitist. What’s up with this trend?

On MVWD, we have many, many voices in our stories and comments but we – that’s Jessica and Victoria for those of you who’ve not read About us – have stayed behind the scenes. We’ve been happy to collect your stories, wave our editing wand when necessary, moderate comments* and laugh out loud with each post and day that passes.

However, as the site grows (we are grateful your loyalty and for those who spread the word) and the conversation on the comment boards becomes more heated and hilarious (we love it that way), we thought we’d jump in with a weekly check-in post. We’ll tell you our thoughts on the week’s posts, accompanying erudite comments, any cautionary take-aways we’ve personally had and other news. So here goes…

This week we had a psychotic JDater, a supposed young Donald Sutherland, a guy many of you called B.S. on, a super awkward grad student and Mr. Onion Breath.

Victoria:

My favorite post of the week: JDate Jerk and I think you guys agree based on the votes. What a freaking nut job! I don’t think it means that we have to give up on the entire concept of online dating, but it is scary that a man of this age could make it through life this way. There really was no excuse for his behavior and luckily the OP was in a crowded restaurant. It’s a good reminder to never meet a first date alone — always meet in a public place!

My favorite comment of the week: I have to give it up to @rawr for calling out the psychotic vegetarian.

Jessica:

My favorite post of the week: First off, this is probably the wrong measure, but I really liked the retro GQ cover of Donald Sutherland that V found for the M.D./J.D. guy story. What a combo of credentials! How impressed would everyone (read: your mama) be if you brought home a doctor and a lawyer! But of course, he turned out to be nutso and looked like Kramer. Also, boners at inappropriate times are not great for those meet the fam moments.

My favorite comment of the week: Is not from this week at all but came in the last seven days so I think it should count. I almost fell off the chair when I read Patrick’s comment regarding an older story about aspirational dogs and a MVWD. Sounds like Patrick’s pooch and the girl from the date should get in touch.

*Any comments that are offensive to the point of being viciously personal, racist, homophobic, exceedingly profane, violent or too graphic in nature won’t be posted.
